Gratitude Is A Must

So, I was thinking the other day that sometimes, as people, we can be extremely ungrateful. Have you ever been around people who are always complaining? They’re just so moany. Nothing is ever good enough. Somehow, they always find something to complain about. How many times have we been those people?

Currently, I have an inflamed or trapped nerve. I don’t know what is going on in my predominant arm, but all I know is that my arm is on FIRE. I mean, the pain is excruciating. Very painful. So at the moment, it is very difficult to type, so I have been speaking into Microsoft Word. But I don’t know if Microsoft thinks they’re being helpful, as the mic is picking up words I never actually said, so this whole ordeal has been rather tedious and stressful. But hey, the silver lining is that it’s forcing me to become ambidextrous. Even though it would be so easy to just wallow in my misery – justifiably so – because of the pain, I have been refusing to let it get me down and ruin my day. No, I’m not saying I’m grateful that I’m in this pain; I’m just grateful that it’s not a lot worse. I’m simply shifting my focus.

I heard someone say the other day, ‘We focus on the things that we don’t have at the expense of what we do have“. I thought, now if that’s not a word and a mic drop all in one. But the question is, why? Why do we do this? A part of it is human nature, I guess. We always think that having more would solve our problems, but in actuality, it won’t. It’s not the answer because it’s never going to be enough. If we’re not careful, we could find ourselves always focused on our lack, yet wondering and complaining why we haven’t got more. But how can we expect to have more when we’re not even grateful for what we do have? It doesn’t make sense, does it?.

So if you’re thinking, “I don’t know what, or have anything to be grateful for,” firstly, that is a load of rubbish, respectfully speaking. Start with something small. Be grateful for your thumbs. You laugh, but try holding and using your phone without using your thumbs. Not so easy, is it? How did you do? Let me know in the comments. Sometimes we don’t appreciate something until we’re forced to live without it. So let us not wait for something to happen for us to start appreciating something. Let’s shift our focus and start now.

Until next time.

Peace and love! x
